MEMORY LANE HORSE DRAWN TOURS -

The Picture is of Bosworth the Boat Horse and Martin Toms his owner on the Ashby canal in the1980’s. The boat operated from Shenton Aqueduct until the High licence fees from British Waterways priced them off the Canal soon afterwards and I ended up buying Bosworth and ploughing with him very successfully I might add.
Our Original tours included Lunch on this boat which meant we offered a day out which was completely horse drawn. This was unique and I am looking for this to happen once again so we can offer a choice of 2 tours. Sue at Ashby Trip has made it quite clear that she would oppose this. She feels it would interefere with her motor boat business. I believe it would compliment it and encourage more people into the area but Sue is of the opinion we would end up sharing the business. I am not looking to put a fleet of boats on the canal just the one. If you could let me know in writing as to whether this would be a good thing I would very much appreciate it.
Ironically horses are banned from the towpaths of Britains canals so express permission from British Waterways is an absolute must. Other business’s on the canal such as The Ashby Boat Company have told me to get on and do it as they believe it would be good for the area in general.
I would like to propose that we will get a horse drawn narrow boat onto the
Ashby Canal for 2011 -
